The Group was founded to encourage an interest in Kineton and District through the study of local history, to work for the safeguarding of local history material, to encourage research, sponsor publications and mount exhibitions to promote public awareness of local history, including among the younger members of the community. We celebrated our 21st birthday in 2008.

The geographical scope of the Group includes a generous area around Kineton village, taking in the communities that historically looked to Kineton as their market and the focus of local activities, so the adjacent parishes of Butlers Marston, Chadshunt, Combroke, Compton Verney, Edgehill and Upton, Gaydon, the Pillertons, Oxhill, Radway, Ratley, Tysoe, are all included in the area of interest. Some members live further afield still.
Members are involved in finding out about the past of the village and its surroundings through documentary research, oral history, archaeology, metal detecting, collecting, talks and visits.
We have talks on local history topics in the Village Hall, usually on the 3rd Friday of the month from September to May at 7.30pm. Visitors are always welcome (£2.00 per visit). In June, July and August we arrange trips to places of historical interest led by informative guides. Pre-booking is essential - many a time have trips sold out at the first meeting tickets have gone sale at! See the upcoming events section for subjects of forthcoming meetings and to see where were going on outings in 2011/12.
